Shalamar Institute of Health Sciences proudly inaugurated its 8th International Conference, bringing together esteemed medical professionals, scholars, and researchers from across Pakistan and beyond.
Themed “Healthcare & Health Education in the AI Era,” conference aims to delve into the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on healthcare delivery and medical education. Distinguished guests including, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Businessmen Hospital Trust Mr. Shahid Hussain, Prof. Dr. Zahid Bashir, Principal of Shalamar Medical & Dental College, and Dr. Ayesha Nauman, COO of Shalamar Hospital, graced the occasion along with faculty members and senior doctors.
The conference witnessed active participation from doctors, surgeons, and medical professionals from various parts of Pakistan and abroad. Prof. Dr. Zahid Bashir extended a warm welcome to all attendees, setting the tone for a series of engaging discussions and activities. Live surgeries were conducted during the conference, showcasing advancements in medical technology and practice.

He highlighted the longstanding commitment of Shalamar Institute of Health Sciences to promote medical research and education, as demonstrated by the continuation of the international conference for the past eight years.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Zahid Bashir outlined the roadmap for various programs and initiatives at Shalamar Institute of Health Sciences for the upcoming year, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to excellence in healthcare education and service.
Syed Babar Ali is a philanthropist, businessman, and ex-caretaker of Pakistan’s Finance Minister. He founded Milk Pak Ltd (now called Nestle Pakistan), Packages Ltd, LUMS (Lahore University of Management Sciences). ‘Syed Babar Ali School of Science & Engineering’ was named after him.
He is also a board member of renowned educational institutes, including Kinnaird College, Lahore School of Economics, and Aitchison College. He also served at different ministries, including the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Finance, and planning in caretaker setup in 1993.
Mr. Shahid Hussain is the Chief Executive Officer of Service Sales Corporation (Pvt.) Limited (SSC). SSC has a network of 370 shoe stores under the brands NDURE, Servis & SHOE PLANET spread all over the country. SSC has two large footwear manufacturing plants in Lahore, i.e., Shoe Planet (Pvt.) Limited at Sue Assal and SSC Manufacturing (Pvt.) Limited at Sundar Industrial Estate. SSC is one of the most prominent players in the footwear business in Pakistan.

Born in 1947, studied at Aitchison College, F.C. College, and Institute of Business Administration, Karachi. Over fifty years of experience in business and public service. Have served as the Chairman, Lahore Stock Exchange, director of National Bank of Pakistan and the Chairman of the Board Audit Committee, director of The Commodity Exchange, Pakistan Credit Rating Agency, balloting and executive committee of Punjab Club, Vice Chairman of The Horticultural Society of Pakistan. Mr. Omar Saeed graduated with high honors from Brown University and did his Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Omar is serving as a Director on the Boards of Service Global Footwear Limited and Service Shoes Lanka (Private) Limited. He is also serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Service Long March Tyres (Private) Limited, Service Foundation, and Jomo Technologies (Private) Limited. Omar has recently been appointed as an Independent Director of Systems Limited.
Omar has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Service Industries Limited (SIL) from 2011 to 2018. Under his stewardship, SIL won the highly prestigious Pakistan Stock Exchange Top 25 Companies Award for 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Prior to that, Omar was responsible for building Servis into one of Pakistan’s most prominent footwear retailers, with 500 stores and more than PKR 12bn in annual revenues. He founded Ovex Technologies (Private) Limited in 2004, which became one of Pakistan’s leading call center companies before the business was sold in 2011.
He has served on the Boards of various private and public companies. Omar has also been an adjunct faculty member of LUMS, where he taught entrepreneurship.
